Why do we find it so difficult at times to take a risk? What is holding us back? How do we reach our full potential if we do not leave behind what is comfortable? The risk in staying firmly inside our comfort zone is that it creates barriers that can lead to real limitations with both our personal, and professional development.

Anything new always feels awkward and stressful at first, but the more you do it, the more comfortable it will be.
So what can we do to get comfortable with being uncomfortable? It has been my experience that people who regularly seek out fresh experiences tend to be more creative. We are stronger and we develop more confidence to reach a higher level.
Trust yourself and take a leap of faith. Do not be afraid to “look crazy” to follow your dreams.
Below are just a few actions I have used to STRETCH and reach my full potential.
1. Start with something small – go to a meeting you do not normally attend for another perspective or knowledge
2. Change your metric – If you are charged with saving $1 million dollars this year, increase it to $1.5 or $2 million dollars, develop a plan to meet the new goal
3. Say “yes” more often – new projects or assignments open opportunities to explore and build new relationships
4. Find a role model/mentor that overcame a hurdle doing what you want to do – build that relationship
5. Stop the inner critic voices – affirm every day to yourself, that you can do it!
Post in the comments at least one action you will do in the next two (2) weeks to leave behind the familiar and reach for higher ground.
